If we save the rainforest, we save the climate! This has been the slogan international environmental organisations have been using for decades to justify their interventions in the equatorial forests. GROUP50:50, an artists' collective from Congo, Switzerland and Germany, tells the colonial history of deforestation and nature conservation in the Congo Basin and gives a voice to those affected, who have not been heard before. The forest in the Congo Basin is fiercely contested and the local population is caught in the crossfire of geopolitical interests: environmentalists against mining companies and timber exporters, local farmers against environmentalists. And then there are the nomadic Mbuti people. They know the forest better than anyone because they live off what it provides them. But they have no rights. In dialogue with the traditional music of the Congo Basin region, GROUP50:50 creates a rousing, multimedia, music-theatrical discussion about the importance of the forest for the fate of the world's population.
